Hunters Point South Development welcomes first residents

On 15 May, several months after more than 93,000 people submitted their applications for the affordable housing apartments on the waterfront of Long Island City, the first lucky chosen residents of the 925 units in the 32-story Hunters Point South Crossing and 37-story Hunters Point South Commons moved into the smaller building.

According to the developer of the project, Related Companies, 31 units have so far been occupied. Construction on the upper floors of both buildings is still ongoing, and tenants are expected to begin moving into Hunters Point South Commons in the summer. Related further stated that move-ins to both properties will continue through the end of the year.

The housing lottery for the two buildings ended in December and all apartments are being filled by those who have applied within the deadline.

The two under-construction buildings are the first to open as part of the city’s waterfront development plan, a multi-phase project that will eventually bring around 5,000 apartments to the Long Island City waterfront.
