Phase 2 of Hunters Point South Park expansion set to begin

What is now considered by many to be one of the most beautiful parks in New York City, is about to become even more beautiful as the City prepares to begin work on an amazing $100 million expansion of the waterfront wonder.

Hunter’s Point South Park in Long island City which shot into the national spotlight earlier this month when it was used as the staging area for the internationally televised Macy’s 4th of July fireworks display will undergo further development over the next three years. The expansion of the Park will see the introduction of new areas including places of tranquility and contemplation to escape the hustle and bustle of New York.

This new phase of the park will include a Peninsula with phases of the moon, a promontory and two overlooks, one facing the New York skyline and the other facing the Newton Creek.

The City recently released the design of Phase 2 of the park which like the highly acclaimed Phase 1 is the result of a collaboration between  Thomas Balsley Associates and Weiss/Manfredi. Construction is expected to start later this summer and to continue through the last quarter of 2018.
